College life is hard enough without a demon roommate, as Buffy Summers learned all too well when UC Sunnydale stuck her in a room with quirky Mok'Tagar-turned-freshman Kathy Newman. While she may have gotten under the slayer's skin (to say the least), Kathy left a strong, unforgettable impression on fans as the girl from college you loved to hate and hated to love. A triple threat to Buffy's peace of mind, the peppy Kathy lived life to a soundtrack of Cher songs, was bizarrely protective of the eggs in her mini fridge, and happily munched on human soul when she needed a midnight snack. WhedonCon is thrilled to announce that another triple threat (and the face behind Kathy Newman), actress Dagney Kerr will be joining the convention's lineup this May.
A native of Ohio who enrolled at the Cincinnati School for the Creative and Performing Arts at a young age, Dagney Kerr has spent her entire life entertaining. Before relocating to Los Angeles, Kerr showed off her dance precision as an apprentice of the Cincinnati Ballet Company. After moving West, she performed onstage at the Geffen Playhouse, Ford Theater, and even put on a one-woman show at the The Hudson Theater.
A prolific actress, singer, and dancer, Kerr also wrote, choreographed, and directed Holiday Fever!, an original musical variety show that The Los Angeles Times called "A Holiday Best Bet." In 2014, Holiday Fever! celebrated its 10th anniversary and was re-staged to a sold-out run with Kerr back at the helm. Apparently, you can bounce back from dripping ketchup on a slayer's sweater.
While theater buffs know Dagney Kerr for her live productions and Whedon fans picture ironing jeans to the sound of Cher's "Believe" when they hear her name, other television aficionados may also be familiar with her body of work. Most recently seen paying it forward on The Middle, Kerr has appeared across all genres on shows like Six Feet Under, Pretty Little Liars, ER, The Bernie Mac Show, and Reba. Kerr also had memorable recurring roles as Nurse Ruth Ann Heisel on Desperate Housewives in 2006 and Claudia on George Lopez in 2002. Fans of indie films may also recognize her as April from Kurt Voelker's 2006 independent comedy Park.
At WhedonCon 2017, Kerr joins fellow onscreen Buffy alum Nicholas Brendon, Harry Groener, Armin Shimerman, Camden Toy, James Leary, and Andrew Ferchland. This year's convention will also feature actors Miracle Laurie, Keith Szarabajka, and Farscape's Gigi Edgley as well as stuntman Damion Poitier, comic scribe Christos Gage, writer extraordinaire Tim Minear, and WhedonCon 2017 Guest of Honor writer David Fury.
The WhedonCon staff is delighted that Dagney Kerr will be gracing our own stages with her presence and showing off her many talents. For fans hoping to learn all the dirt on what it's like to live with a slayer or just looking to jam out to Cher, WhedonCon 2017 memberships are available here.
WhedonCon 2017 is giving us all something to sing about on May 19-21 at The Warner Center Marriott in Los Angeles. In honor of the late Ron Glass, all proceeds from the convention will go towards The Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center, a charity that provides free and low-cost after school and summer programs for students in grades 3-12.
